3 Ways to Cultivate Your Child's Creativity with Order & Organization
Do your kids have endless toys but always say they are bored? A lack of order in the playroom can mean a lack of creativity. When kids can't see what they have, choosing a toy or game is overwhelming and hard.
Keep reading for my 3 playroom organization tips that encourage creativity and enhance fun…
1. Let Your Kids See Their Options
It's important to store similar items together, just like you do in your kitchen. For example, keep art supplies separate from puzzles and dress-up separate from Legos. Once kids know where and how things are stored, it will be easier to find what they seek. Although they won't hide the mess, store toys in clear bins so kids can see what they have.
2. Give Your Children Easy Cleaning Solutions
Are you looking for quick and easy cleaning solutions? Use larger bins and baskets to hide the mess. A mess inside is normal, but you don't need to see it! For example, stuffed animals, cars, and dress-up clothes can go in large baskets, Legos and kitchen toys in smaller bins.
Labeling bins and baskets will also help with kid-friendly clean-up. Use words and pictures for younger children. If you put games and puzzles in bins or pouches, cut the box top and tape it on the outside. If your kids have a ton of books, add a bookshelf or install narrow shelves on the wall and store the books with covers facing out. A few organizational shifts in your playroom will reduce your visual stress and make the space easy to play in and clean up.
3. Encourage Your Littles for Input
Don't want to do all the work yourself? Get the kids involved! Ask the kids for their input on where each toy's home should be. Help them come up with creative reasons for each toy's home. Do baby dolls live in their crib? That makes sense. Keeping stuffed animals in the play kitchen? That's silly! Come up with a better plan. Kids know how they play with their toys. Let them be part of the decision-making.
An organized playroom is not about perfection. It is about having sensible systems for fun, creativity, learning, and easy cleanup. Then, when the whole family is on board and has ownership of the play space, you won't feel stressed about a mess, and the kids will thrive.
