It’s summer! And one of your goals is spending more time in the backyard swimming, grilling, and gardening. But even the yard can start to look cluttered by pool toys, furniture covers and watering tools. Today I have 3 storage solutions to simplify your outdoor living life.

Option #1: Very Practical Vertical Shelving

Just like you do indoors, use vertical space for storage. There are a range of storage options from open shelving to vertical storage sheds. If you have a lot of small items to store outside such as gardening supplies, grilling tools and outdoor dinnerware, consider a taller outdoor shelving unit with doors. You can use bins with lids for dinnerware and grilling supplies on the top shelves and open baskets for gardening tools on the lower shelves. And don’t forget to label so things get put back in their proper places.

Option #2: Helpful Hooks for Hanging Needs

Never underestimate the power of a hook! A row of hooks outside can be great for hanging pool towels or gardening tools. Add a couple wall hooks next to your grill for your tongs and spatula and store the kids’ goggles on hooks near the pool.  Are guests always leaving their sweaters behind? You can install hooks for guests to put their belongings while they enjoy your backyard with you this summer.  (If you are hesitant to install permanent hooks, try Command hooks that can be easily removed with no damage to walls.)

Option #3: Subtle, Functional Storage Chests

A storage chest is a great option for larger items such as outdoor pillows, furniture covers and pool toys. If used to store smaller items, storage chests can be a little challenging to keep organized. I suggest adding bins (such as the Multipurpose Bin from the Container Store) to the inside so items can be stored by category.  A bonus to using a storage bench outside is that it can double as a bench.
