Project Reveal: Functional Home Organizing in Beverly Hills, California
I was contacted by my client to organize a large pantry with some very high shelving. The client shared that she neither knew where things were nor did she know what she had. Her goal was for the space to be functional for her entire family including her adult kids and her grandchildren. She also likes to entertain so she wanted platters and serving pieces moved down so she could reach them with a kitchen step stool, not a tall ladder.
My Process & Project Launch
During the consultation I took note of what the client had in her pantry, including existing organizing product (so I could use what she had). As I took measurements, I made sure to check if the pantry shelves were adjustable (they were not). I planned for the space and went shopping for product. (I always over buy for a job because I never know what will work. I want to have flexibility to move things around as I work.)
Before photos:
I began the day by removing everything from the pantry and sorting all by like items. Once all of the categories were set, I wiped the pantry shelves and went to work placing product. Since I had to be mindful of shelf height, I moved things around as needed. I wanted all of the food items to be on the right side and some on the shelves that face the door. I also wanted to move the small appliances into a less visible spot.
My client came in periodically to check in and to give feedback about what worked for her family. She also went through all of the serving pieces and purged what she no longer wanted.
Home Organizing Revealed
The pantry turned out great. All of the foods can be easily found as thing are labeled and categorized. For instance, all of the oils are on one turntable and all of the baking supplies are in a bin.
I used the Mocha Water Hyacinth Bins from the Container Store to match her existing baskets, a variety of turntables, and many of The Home Edit for Walmart bins.
“I love everything!” is what my client said about her updated pantry. Making the client happy is always what I aim to do.
