Why You Should Invest in the Expertise of a Professional Organizer
It’s a pretty common occurrence for me to hear, “Can’t I just organize my home myself? What advice can you give me?” I usually respond by telling them to go for it and just don’t buy any organizing product before you purge items. Not everyone wants the help of a professional but working with someone to declutter is better than DIY. Today I will share my 3 reasons why.
Reason #1: A Pro is Guaranteed to Help You Purge More Effectively
People who work with a professional organizer often get rid of way more when they have someone to coach them along. I, myself, hired someone to help me purge my own closet. I had gone through it several times and always found a few things to donate or sell, but with help, I was able to purge several bags of items.
Decluttering can be an emotional task and a professional can provide you with the support to make difficult decisions about your belongings. With a systematic method for decluttering, I can facilitate the process and make it more manageable. In the kitchen, I would remove all of your cooking utensils and sort them. I recently had a client who had 7 can openers! You just don’t need that many! With me taking everything out, she didn’t realize how many she had. We compromised, and she kept 2. (You really only need one, but it’s a team effort ;).) Lastly, having someone there creates a sense of commitment. There is a sense of accountability and a professional can maintain the momentum throughout the process.
Reason #2: An Organizer is Happy to Handle Discards & Donations
Have you ever done a purge in your home and driven around town with the bag in your trunk for 3 months? Many people do this! As a professional, I always take items to the donation center. I have also taken hazardous disposal, recycling, boxes of CDs, and sometimes bags of trash if the cans are full. These “extras” are a real bonus to clients because they can feel a sense of completion, without extra tasks, when my job is done.
Reason #3: A Coach Blends Their Expertise with Your Everyday Life
My goal is to always make my clients’ spaces more efficient and functional for their daily lives. I start with getting to know their habits and routines, as well as identifying their pain points within the space. I also create designated zones and categories for maximum efficiency. Throughout the process, I work collaboratively with clients, ensuring that the systems I create feel intuitive and manageable, leading to a greater likelihood of long-term success.
