Laundry Room Organization: What You Need to Know
Laundry. A necessary, but tedious and unending task. It's hard to keep up with the school clothes, work clothes, linens, and towels. Piles are left all over the laundry room. You can't find what you need. Are you sick and tired of it? I’m guessing your frustration comes from not having a system.
Laundry is here to stay but designing and organizing your laundry room to work for you will help turn this exhausting chore into an easy daily task.
Keep reading for 5 tips that will help you transform your laundry room, maximize your space, and create a dedicated work area that saves time, reduces headaches, and makes for a happier you.
1. Keep the Counters Mostly Clear
Spend your time on an unloved task in a beautiful and clutter-free space! Keep the laundry room counters clear of everything but your soaps, scent boosters, and dryer balls. Decanting these most used items into pretty containers will make the space look even better. Store any other laundry necessities away (stain remover, bleach, delicate wash soap, etc.). A clear counter will give you space to sort and fold, and its simplicity will elevate your mood.
2. Organize the Cleaning Cabinets
Maximize space and accessibility in your laundry room cabinets by storing like items together. Add a turntable for laundry products and one for cleaning products. Use clear containers for sponges and cleaning cloths so they are easy to find.
Don't forget to measure your spaces before you purchase organizing products. You want your items to fit!
3. Tuck Tools Away in Drawers
It's best to store your basic tools (hammer, screwdrivers, nails, etc.) inside the house where they are easily accessible. A laundry room drawer or two is the perfect place for tools. Invest in drawer organizers and store like items together.
4. Easily Access Household Essentials
Laundry rooms should also serve as a home for your household essentials, like lightbulbs, batteries, command strips, picture-hanging hooks, etc. Whether storing these in a drawer or cabinet, use containers that are well-labeled. You don't want to be sifting through a cluttered drawer to find the proper lightbulb. Instead, store lightbulbs in labeled bins or boxes. You can have one labeled "indoor" and one "outdoor." Just use labels that make sense for your home.
5. Be Creative with Vertical Space
Wondering what you can do with the space above the washer and dryer? Consider installing a rod or a drop-down drying rack for items that need to be hung to dry. Add a utility rack or wall hooks for the broom and mop. Try adding command hooks inside of a cabinet door to hang keys. There is a lot you can do with vertical space - just think outside the box!
Remember, you can do this. Keep the counter clear, store like items together, and label so you can find what you need. Laundry room functionality… maximized!
